Chapter III Main Program
3.1 Run Compass Main Program
Run HIT.EXE to launch main program. The window is shown in the figure below.

This window includes Title Bar, Menu Bar, Tool Bar, Status Bar and User
Area.
Open a file from ‘File’ on Menu Bar, for example, a RINEX 2.0 demo file, to open a
window, as shown in the following figure.

view and text output view, etc.

Title Bar: The initial purpose of Title Bar is to provide assistance to determine the type
of active application. However, it also serves as a controller to help you do some basic
actions such as maximize, minimize and close window. As a default setting, Compass
always displays the project name on the Title Bar
Menu Bar: Menu Bar, as a crucial part of every Windows application, Drop-Down menu
contains many commands for project files or calculating and managing data.
Tool Bar: Tool Bar contains many commend shortcuts. It simplifies operation. You can
hide it.
Status Bar: Status Bar shows information ongoing operations. You can hide it.
User Area: User Area is the main area for users, it contains all kinds of views related to
project.
Comprehensive Network: observation station, static baseline, Kinematics route are
shown and edited in Comprehensive Network, relationship and error information of
them is also displayed. By pressing the Right-click, a Pop-up Menu that offers
operational functions such as zoom-in and zoom-out.
Tree View: Tree View has two parts. The Left part is a window which shows the objects
(observation file, static/ Kinematics baseline, observation station, static baseline and
Kinematics route) of each application hierarchically, the while right part lists detailed
information of the contents of these objects, such as general information of the
observation file, Static/Kinematics baselines processing/adjustment result of
,
observation station
etc. Pop-up Menu on tree-view(Click left part) is a useful tool to
carry out operational functions, to check and edit Properties of objects and see the
finial result.

Following session the operational functions of the main program.
3.2 Menu Bar and Tool Bar
3.2.1 Menu Bar
Menu Bar contains File, Edit, Static Baseline, Kinematics Differential, Network
Adjustment, Check, Result, Tools, View, Window and Help.

Besides for the Menu Bar, every window has a Pop-up Menu evoked by right clicking
on window or clicking the ‘Application’ button ( ). The position of the Menu Bar may
change as the active window changes. Details of Pop-up Menus for different windows
see following chapters.
3.2.2 Tool Bar
The Tool Bar of the main program contains functions that are most often used. It
simplifies the operation.

Open project RINEX in the Demo data to see the baseline network below. Both static
baseline control network and Kinematics route can be shown in the network window.

3.3.1 Contents of Network
The Static baseline network in the figure above shows information about the
observation stations, static baselines and Kinematics routes with additional information
such as baseline, scale, error ellipse scale, lat/long grid and so on.
3.3.1.1 Observation Station
GPS observation stations are classified into known stations, represented by and
unknown stations, represented by in network.

Note: Since the network is under WGS-84 and is drawn with geodetic coordinates
using point positioning, the scale is not that accurate.
3.3.1.2 Static Baseline
Lines with arrows stand for static baseline. Could be hided. They turn gray to represent
uncalculated baselines or baselines are not involved in computation.
A static baseline or an observation station would be highlighted when mouse pointer
points to it, meanwhile, the general information would be shown on status bar below the
network.
Moving the mouse pointer slowly on overlapped baselines will display the information
of each baseline on the status bar one after another.

As shown in the following figure , there are actually two baselines, Q036
Q049 2048
~
and Q036
Q049 2053, between station Q036 and station Q049. The Information of
the former would be displayed when the pointer touches points to the upper corner
edge of the displayed baseline, and that of the latter, when pointer touches points to the
lower corner edge.

3.3.2 Pop-up
Menus in Network Window
Typical operational functions of the network, which can be carried out by using either
the Pop-up menu, keyboard or Menu bar, including refreshing network, zoom in / zoom
out network, and panning the network, zoom in / zoom out error ellipse, deleting objects
in the network and blocking certain objects by modifying the network Properties. The
Pop-up menu here offers refreshing the network, the zoomin/zoomout network, and
panning the network, zoomin/zoomout error ellipse and deleting objects.

3.3.3 Refresh Network, Zoom in/zoom out, and Panning
Network
- Select ‘refresh’ in the Pop-up menu or ‘view’>’refresh’ on Menu Bar to refresh the
network.
When the network is refreshed, the scale of each object will be resized according to the
overall size of the network.
You can enlarge or reduce the size of a network by - Select ‘Zoom in’or ‘Zoom out’ in
the Pop-up menu. The change in size depends on the location of the mouse pointer

- Select ‘view’>’Zoom in’ and ‘Zoom out’ on the Menu Bar

- Press Ctrl+‘+’ and Ctrl+ ‘-’.
If the enlarged network is too large for the out of the range of display-window, you can
drag it using the Scroll Bar or keyboard, as shown in the following figure.
The Menu and keyboard shortcuts of the operational functions above are listed in the
table below.

To choose the displayed contents, use the Combo Box located on the top of the
dialog-box. There are seven options on the list, as shown in the following figure.

shows the properties for printing.

Paper Size: The Network would self-fit to the size of paper. See figure below:

The Other two options would lead to a multi-paper print. You can then combine printout
together to form a complete network.
3.4 Tree View Operation
As shown in the following figure, Select ‘Window’ > ‘Tree View’ to see the tree view
which has two parts, the lists window on the right and the tree window on the left.

3.4.1 Tree window
As shown in figure (), there are four main parts in the
tree window
: Observation Data,

of Baseline, Kinematics Route and Observation Station

Items in the
tree window
are arranged alphabetically by name and can be accessed by
using either the mouse pointer or arrow keys.
By Clicking, any item in the

highlighting corresponding item in latter.

The Following figure shows the

Brief information about Raw Data, Baseline and Station is available in
Lists Window.

3.3.1 Contents of Network
The Static baseline network in the figure above shows information about the
